Dr Mark Gorbatov

MB BS (Hons) FRANZCO

He studied medicine at the University of Sydney and trained to be an Ophthalmologist at the Sydney Eye Hospital. Further training in retinal diseases was undertaken at the Lions Eye Institute in Perth, working on surgical retina as well as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom. The focus of the work at Manchester was in surgical retina especially retinal detachment and severe complications of diabetic retinopathy.

Dr Gorbatov has a teaching hospital appointment at Sydney Eye Hospital. He regularly performs surgery for retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular traction, diabetic retinopathy, eye injuries and other retinal disorders.

He has a special interest in endoscopic vitrectomy, a rarely required technique for performing vitrectomy surgery in eyes without a clear view through the pupil.

In the consulting rooms, he sees patients with the above retinal disorders as well as retinal tears, macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusion. Laser treatments are performed in the consulting rooms and he is credentialed to perform intravitreal injections at MetWest Surgical.

When not fixing retinal detachments he likes to go sailing either socially or yacht racing, or to go skiing with the kids.
