Dr Robyn Armstrong extinguishes a fire under the close supervision of Adam from EMS.
Dr Robyn Armstrong and the Day Surgery team from MetWest Surgical participated in a hands-on staff training day, including putting out small fires with fire blankets and extinguishers. The training day further enabled the team to deal appropriately with emergencies that may come their way – either at work or home.
The training is part of MetWest’s annual staff training program, ensuring up-to-date protocols and systems are in place at the centre, with patients assured of safe practises in use throughout the organisation.
Orthoptists Ayca and Jenny practise their life-saving techniques.
MetWest’s annual training day was held on Saturday the 22nd September 2012. Adam from Emergency Management Systems (EMS) ran the training in “First Response Medical-General CPR”, “First Response Fire” and “Manual Handling”. The training is held annually and updates all staff on the latest techniques in CPR and responding to fires.
MetWest’s Medical Director, Dr Robyn Armstrong, recently caught up with local GPs at the Blacktown Medical Practitioner’s Association lunch on 19 September, where she presented a talk on Ocular Emergencies.
Tips on when to refer ocular emergencies such as retinal detachments, conjunctivitis and iritis were given.
It was good to catch up with Drs Harry House, Lorna Benedicto, Harry Misra, Prabha Chandra, Corozan Francisco, Dan Poorun, Mohammed Sheriff, and other local doctors who have supported MetWest over many years.
